Frequently asked questions

We understand you might have questions before committing to a first aid course. Whether you're interested in workplace first aid or mental health first aid, we've compiled answers to help you feel confident in choosing NB First Aid. Our goal is to empower you to react in an emergency with both mental and physical health.

How long does my first aid qualification last?

All first aid qualifications obtained through NB First Aid are valid for 3 years from the date of completion. This ensures your knowledge and skills remain current and effective for handling emergencies.

Are NB First Aid courses regulated and HSE compliant?

Yes, absolutely. Our first aid courses are fully regulated and HSE (Health and Safety Executive) compliant, giving you peace of mind that your certification meets national standards. We always provide the latest information, reflecting current guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK.

Is the training 'accredited'?

Some providers call training “accredited training” because it is certificated through an awarding body.

However, in 2013, the Health and Safety Executive changed the rules.

Before 2013: HSE approved and monitored first aid training providers.

After 2013: Employers became responsible for ensuring their chosen provider is competent and compliant.

This means HSE does not require first aid training to be accredited through an awarding body.

We follow the same model used by voluntary aid organisations such as:

  • St John Ambulance
  • British Red Cross

We are an independent course provider, regulated and quality assured by Skillbase UK. That means:

  • Skillbase write and quality-assure our courses
  • Our training is compliant with HSE requirements
  • Our content aligns with current resuscitation guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK
  • Delegates receive certification from SkillBase First Aid

What makes NB First Aid's training different?

At NB First Aid, we stand out by ensuring our courses incorporate the very latest guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK. Our experienced instructors focus on building your confidence and practical skills, and our awarding body is SkillBase. We're committed to empowering individuals to react effectively, making a real difference when every emergency matters.

I'm worried about making mistakes or forgetting what to do?

It's natural to have concerns like 'What if I do something wrong?' or 'What if I forget what to do?' especially when it comes to mental health first aid. Our courses are designed to address these worries head-on, building your confidence through practical scenarios and clear guidance. We'll also help you understand 'How do I know when I will need help?' and 'What if it doesn't work?' Rest assured, you can email us with any enquiries even after you've completed your course.

Why don’t we accredit?

Because we prioritise confidence, competence, and practical ability.

Accredited qualifications often require:

  • more paperwork
  • more written assessment
  • more admin time

We prefer to use that time for:

  • practical learning
  • coaching
  • confidence building
  • real-world scenario practice

That aligns with our belief:

People save lives because they feel confident enough to act — not because they passed paperwork.
